Students in third and fourth grade did a great job this week demonstrating the meaning of teamwork. Working together, they completed their first ever BreakoutEDU box. This is a fun puzzle game that involves finding clues to open a locked box as a team. Each class was able to unlock the box and received a prize! Great job everyone! Students will next be able to do a BreakoutEDU by earning 100 ClassDojo points during library.
This week we saw the start of both the Wonder League Robotics Club and The Little Coders coding club. Students had a great time and it is looking like students and teachers will be learning a lot from one another!
Starting today we will be publishing a monthly newsletter with events and happenings in the Library. Titled "Library News and Notes", you should receive a copy in your email each month. Remember that you can always use Remind to keep up to date on Library events as well or follow Mr. D on Twitter. All welcome letters have now been sent home and both Little Coders coding club and Wonder League Robotics will begin next week! Students from CNS will be teaching our coding club and Mr. DeSantis will be the coach for our robotics club. Looking forward to seeing everyone next week here in the Library!
After first introducing the Wonder League Robotics Competition last school year to our students, teams have officially been chosen! Letters are on the way home today with information. We will begin on October 9th here in the Library. Watch this short video to see all the amazing things that students will have the opportunity to do: The Legos have arrived!! We now offer a Lego wall and a Stick Together project for students to work on in the Library. Students will have an opportunity to use either one of these great new projects when they are finished finding their new books each week!
We are very excited for the last of the new furniture that has arrived here in the Library. Students are now able to use several soft seating options throughout the room while working on projects or reading. Students have been enjoying the many other changes that have come to our room. This week we were able to start making use of the whiteboard tables around our room. Students answered the question, “what do you want to get better at or learn this year?”
Welcome back to another great year at Cicero Elementary. Our library is run by myself, Mr. DeSantis (Library teacher), and Mrs. Harte our library aide. I hope that you enjoyed your summer vacation. While you were away there were some big changes happening in the library.
We are are fortunate to now have some colorful flexible seating courtesy of our school district. Students will be better able to move about the room and work with partners now. You can see some of the pictures of our new furniture being installed below. We are are so excited for the year to come and there are even more changes yet to come. You can look forward to more information at open house on Robotics Club, Coding Club and Battle of the Books. Make sure to stop by and see the library! Students in every grade had a chance at trying one of the many STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) resources the Library offers. Choices included different types of building blocks, Osmo and coding with Dash and Dot. Students showed excellent problem solving and team work skills. Students have spent the last few months of school preparing for their big day. Each of our fourth grade students had the chance to present and walk through the Cicero Elementary Wax Museum.
If you could meet anyone who would it be? Fourth graders are exploring that idea by becoming that person. We have been investigating a famous person of their choice and will be presenting to the other classes in the school soon. Students have covered people from Stephen Curry to Henry Ford and are excited to be sharing soon!
