Students in every grade had a chance at trying one of the many STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) resources the Library offers. Choices included different types of building blocks, Osmo and coding with Dash and Dot. Students showed excellent problem solving and team work skills.
If you could meet anyone who would it be? Fourth graders are exploring that idea by becoming that person. We have been investigating a famous person of their choice and will be presenting to the other classes in the school soon. Students have covered people from Stephen Curry to Henry Ford and are excited to be sharing soon!
We are making some changes in the Library to make it even more student focused. Checkout these fourth graders enjoying our new flexible space that can be used for read-to-self or group work time.
Sometimes we finish a little early and just need to move our bodies. First graders enjoyed this throwback Thursday with some M.C. Hammer from GoNoodle.
What would you get if you crossed a Gray Fox, Komodo Dragon and an African Penguin? First graders are using their imagination to find out. Classes are using PebbleGo to find facts about real life animals and then squishing them together to make something brand new.
Our third graders are hard at work doing their Jurassic Park Project. Working in groups of two and three, students investigated a dinosaur and are creating a set of Google Slides. These slides are going to be shared to create a Jurassic Park that we can explore as a class.
Make sure to ask your amateur paleontologist all about their dino!
First grade students have been working on a fiction and nonfiction project called, "Animal Squishing." Classes researched three different animals with the use of PebbleGo and recorded them with Google Slides. We then "squished" those animals together to form a new animal. Students took on the identity of the new animal and wrote an informational story about themselves. These stories were then turned into ChatterPix videos. Great job first grade!
This is the first of many updates from the Library. My name is Mr. Desantis, I am the Library/Media Specialist (aka Library Teacher) here at Cicero Elementary. I have a passion for learning and having fun with students. My goal in the Library is to make learning as fun as can be, while having students work together on many different collaborative projects. My background includes training as both a classroom teacher and a library teacher.
We are currently at the tail end of the 2017-18 school year but this page will be used for regular updates from the Library. We will share things going on with students, as well as any larger family events like the Book Fair that we have twice a year.
If you ever want to get in touch with me you can always call Cicero Elementary or email me at email@example.com.
