Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by listening to this great read aloud of how to catch a Leprechaun. When finished think about how you might catch a Leprechaun. Author Mo Willems invites you into his workshop for the next few weeks to see how he works. Willems is the creator of some of our most loved characters such as Elephant and Piggy and the famous Pigeon!
The Spring Book Fair is coming! The preview day will be Friday March 27th and the fair is open March 30th-April 3rd. Students will be attending during their regularly scheduled Library class. Download the file below for the complete schedule and information.
Last Monday we kicked off our month long celebration of reading with Read Across America Day and our PARP assembly. We had some basketball players from CNS HS on hand to help us get pumped up for completing this year's challenge to read 50,000 minutes before the end of March.
After the first full week of the PARP challenge students have already read 35,745 minutes! Everyone is doing a great job, keep it up! Congratulations to our third grade team on making it to the final round of the international Wonder League Robotics Competition! This team is competing against students from over 60 other countries over the next few weeks.
That time of the year has come again! Our first graders are hard at work creating original Mo Willems Pigeon stories. Teams of two or three students are taking the basic idea of the Pigeon and creating original never before seen stories.
Click the button below to learn more about who Mo Willems is. Classes have been working hard all year on earning ClassDojo points. Rewards for these points have included getting an extra book. Today, the first set of classes earned their special reward day. We paused our normal lesson, and after getting books students were able to use some of the many different things that we have in the Library. In the pictures you can see groups of students working collaboratively on building a metal car, using our new white board tables and playing Kahoot. Congratulations to these classes for working so hard to achieve this reward!
The Fall Reading Challenge is in full swing now. For students that track their reading over the weeks between Thanksgiving break and December break you can earn a sweet treat! If you track your reading for at least ten nights you will earn a gift card to Sweet Frog of Cicero! Enjoy your reading!
A Special thank you to Sweet Frog of Cicero for sponsoring this reading challenge again this year! Thank you everyone for supporting the book fair! This was a very successful book fair. As a result of this fair we added $460 of books to the library and we donated $490 worth of books to Galisano Children’s Hospital! We also earned roughly $2,500 to help support the many library programs, which includes Battle of the Books, Robotics, Coding and STEM resources.
The book fair returns in March! Students have been working so hard on their Wonder League Robotics Club missions. Two of our teams have officially complete mission one!
